figures
... which I randomly ran into lately:
- Vimeo has 100m unique visitors, 400k subscribers, $40 annual revenues
- Youtube has 1 billion unique visitors (25% on mobile) and 6 billions of hours watched per month
- as opposed to Vimeo, YT makes money from advertsing, with a few thousands buying in stream and more than a million clients which probably use the DIY ads platform powered by Google (display, text etc). On an $1000 average per year ($80/month), YT easily makes more than $1bn per year. More likely the amount is much much higher.
- Google bought YT in 2006 for $1.65bn, in a share transaction.
- Whatsapp has about 400M pictures shared within the network daily. Snapchat is also around the same threshold.
- In compariso, Facebook has only 350M pictures uploaded on their servers daily, and Instagram has about 50M.
